Ideology …..Idealist’s logic.

Ideologies are utopian, which is the view one gets when the ideologies around the world are considered. Probably, that is what is intended out of ideologies, because if the ideologies are achievable then after fulfilling the idea the followers are going to feel hollow.

Taking up the case of the mother of all ideologies i.e. COMMUNISM, the point can be substantiated. Communism stands for “social and economic equality of the people where the community as a whole owns all property”. Equality of people monetarily or by any other factor is not achievable. Large or geographically broad populations tend to be diverse, making it difficult to maintain a common goal or set of rules for shared effort and resources. If you take a more local ideology like HINDUTVA where the practitioners believe in “restoring the glory of Hinduism promoting Hindu nationalism and eliminate ‘separate-but-equal system”. Here too, the ideology though motivates a lot of patriotic followers, a large question looms over the accomplishment of the idea in a democratic and pluralist Indian society.

The feeling one gets on assessment is that; ideologies are means to eternally motivate the follower towards achieving it. Any ideology for that matter is good, though different practitioners might have differing views. What should be guarded against is the hatred and sectarian attitude that might pop up due to the staunch belief in the ideology patronised.

Hi sajeev,
wilkomen to the blogging fraternity!!!Hoping to see more of your posts.

Idealogies span lifetimes. Which explains why people don't call capitalism an idealogy, or the Renaissance. Or the industrial revolution for that matter. If they did, they don't understand the nature of an idealogy.

Capitalism, the Renaissance, et al. These are just ideas which just sparked off a scramble for a goal which was within reach. Something which did not fundamentally require any change in our thinking.

The Renaissance was mass production of art which people always wanted. The industrial rev. was mass production giving more people what they've always wanted. Capitalism - monetary recognition for individual diligence and foresight.

On the other hand Communism requires a fundamental change in a person's thinking, a recognition of the fact that he can sacrifice his toils today and ensure a better tommorrow. Of course it goes against the very nature of thinking, of fairness - if we limit it to an individual lifetime.

If you want to live for yourself choose Capitalism, indulge yourself with your foresight and money, but do not forget that the very social structure which enables you to do so evolved over centuries, centuries over which the better among the mighty decided to sacrifice for the future of the weak.

Communism is social evolution accelerated by man, a fact which is not recognized by people who feel that a penny now and always, is worth more than a pound tommorrow. Communism, is not for people who cannot take a risk which would span centuries. Communism, is not for people whose future stops at the end of their lives.
